Thought Pollution
This post investigates the root cause of all social and ecological degeneration happening in the world.
After 27 years on the spiritual path and having been part of many "help others" initiatives it became apparent to me that outer change needs to be first preceded by inner change. If there is peace, tranquility, and a sense of balance within ourselves then this keeps our greed in check. With greed not raising its ugly head we tend to become more need-based and take everyone's genuine interest into consideration. Because of our ever-expanding and refined consciousness, we become self-composed and give up the slavery of other people's opinions about ourselves. Now that we are "free of ourselves" we begin to include the welfare of soil, water, plants, and animals in our scheme of things. We begin to think in terms of "WE" instead of just me.
Money and profits, naturally become a means to extend this sense of peace and harmony and not a means to satisfy our ego or our uncontrolled urge for one-upmanship. Money is earned for an all-encompassing welfare purpose and not for the blind love of money itself.
So while we most certainly need to take urgent external action and adjust our lifestyles to stop further degeneration, we must not make the mistake of putting the cart before the horse. Inner transformation must take the primary position followed and complimented by external action.
We recommend Heartfulness meditation as one of the very effective tools for inner transformation. Visit www.heartfulness.org to know more about this worldwide free meditation resource.
